Anya Taylor-Joy (30) is taking on the role of an elf in the new "The Lord of the Rings" film "The Hunt for Gollum". However, the actress has not yet read the books by J.R.R. Tolkien. She revealed this to the US trade magazine "Variety" at the premiere of the Apple TV production "Lucky" in Los Angeles.

In the interview, she emphasized that she would now catch up on the material. "I'm just starting to read the books." As a child, she was a big "Harry Potter" fan and had long believed that one had to choose between the two worlds. "Nobody told me that. I just came up with that on my own," the actress said. It wasn't until the Corona pandemic that she finally watched all the "The Lord of the Rings" films. That's when she realized "that you can - and should - love both."

Meanwhile, Taylor-Joy is completely enthusiastic about her new role. "It's so much fun," she gushed. "I mean, if my tombstone says 'Deadly Elf,' I probably did good work on this planet. So yes, I'm super excited."

First Details About the New Middle-earth Film

The casting was announced in June. Taylor-Joy portrays Seren in the new Middle-earth film, a Sindar elf from the Woodland Realm. The character is described as a "trusted and deadly agent of King Thranduil." Alongside Taylor-Joy, other prominent newcomers are involved: Kate Winslet, Leo Woodall, and Jamie Dornan. Dornan takes on the role of Aragorn, previously portrayed by Viggo Mortensen. Andy Serkis directs while also appearing in front of the camera once again as Gollum. Additionally, several familiar actors are returning: Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as King Thranduil.

The plot is set between "The Hobbit" and "The Fellowship" chronologically. It centers on Aragorn's search for the Ring-obsessed Gollum.
