Karolin Kandler (40) showed herself in tears to her followers on Instagram. In a photo, the former "Tagesschau" anchor sits in her car with tear-stained eyes.
"I never thought I would become like this", she writes. The occasion is a purely private moment: Her son Ludwig is leaving elementary school.
In a short video that the host shared afterward, she visibly struggles to maintain her composure. "I just can't handle it right now", she says in it. According to Kandler's description, the trigger was a loving message from her son's teacher.
Only then did she truly realize that elementary school is actually over. Ludwig was born in 2016 and is now moving on to secondary school.
The mother of two has an explanation for her emotion ready. Since the birth of her children, she has been "just so sentimental", she writes on Instagram. The 40-year-old is certainly not alone with this feeling.
Under the post, many parents reported their own farewells, from elementary school or from kindergarten. Time and again it was about how quickly the years had passed and how final such a transition feels.
From "Tagesschau" to ":newstime"
The host has made it clear before that family also shapes her career. In October 2022, she said goodbye to Norddeutscher Rundfunk after about four and a half years and moved from ARD to ProSieben. The regular commuting between her place of residence Munich and Hamburg thus came to an end.
Before her internship at münchen.tv, she completed training as a bank clerk and studied International Business Administration. Positions at Deutschen Anleger Fernsehen and Sky Sport News followed, then in 2018 the move to ARD, where she was seen on tagesschau24 and in editions of "Tagesschau". Today she is part of the news team at ProSiebenSat.1 and hosts ":newstime", among other programs.
