The Dutch royals are celebrating Princess Alexia this Friday: The middle daughter of King Willem-Alexander (59) and Queen Máxima (55) is turning 21 years old. The Dutch palace is offering congratulations on Instagram with a current photo. In it, Alexia is smiling at the camera in an olive green dress with an asymmetrical cut. A brown belt is tied around her waist, and she's holding a suede bag in her hand. "Princess Alexia celebrates her 21st birthday today", it says, accompanied by a confetti emoji.
The photo was taken during the royal family's annual summer photo shoot. For the photo session, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima and their three daughters Crown Princess Amalia (22), Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane (19) came together in the garden of the Clingendael estate.
Alexia is studying in London
Alexia is currently a student. At the end of September 2024, she began her studies in Science and Engineering for Social Change at University College London. Shortly afterwards, she switched to Engineering Sciences. She had already spent some time in Great Britain before starting university: The princess completed her high school diploma at a school in the small Welsh town of Llantwit Major. She then took a gap year, which she used for traveling and working.
Alexia's older sister, heir to the throne Amalia, can already look back on a completed bachelor's degree in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics. She is currently gaining experience as a working student with the Dutch Air Force while simultaneously studying Dutch Law - also at the University of Amsterdam again. Princess Ariane announced in April that she will study Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology starting in fall 2026.
