The search for the German act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 has begun. The application phase for the German preliminary round, which bears the title "Eurovision Song Contest - Das Deutsche Finale", is now underway. According to an announcement by Südwestrundfunk (SWR), musicians can apply via an SWR website until September 21, 2026.
Newcomers are also sought
In the announcement, SWR addresses not only artists and bands but also songwriters. Among the prerequisites for an application is extensive stage experience. Applicants should also bring "outstanding vocal qualities". Furthermore, the broadcaster emphasizes that not only established musicians but also newcomers are being sought. The acts should be "unusual and unique", it is further stated.
A selection will be made from the submitted acts in a multi-stage process. This will culminate in a live show in which the German representative will be determined. The final of the preliminary round is expected to be broadcast in February 2027 - both on Das Erste and in the ARD media library.
Where will the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 take place?
This year, Cologne singer Sarah Engels (33) competed for Germany at the ESC with "Fire". For the former "DSDS" contestant, it was only enough for 23rd place, the third-to-last position. Bulgarian singer Dara (27) won with her song "Bangaranga" ahead of Israel and Romania. With this victory, Bulgaria won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time and will host the competition in 2027.
Which city the contest will take place in has not yet been determined. Burgas and the capital Sofia are in the running. The cities of Plovdiv and Varna have already been eliminated, as announced by Bulgarian broadcaster BNT and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
