Dzsenifer Marozsan (34) is saying goodbye to professional soccer. The Olympic champion and former German national soccer player announced this on Instagram on July 7. In a moving post, the athlete bids farewell to active professional sports.
Marozsan shares images on the social media platform from her childhood and moments from her career. "It started very early. The ball was the only thing that made me happy", the 34-year-old recalls in accompanying lines in English. Playing soccer was never something forced or merely a dream for the exceptional athlete, "it was the love of the game and the joy with my teammates. Now it's time for me to say goodbye to this beautiful sport."

In the post, Marozsan thanks numerous people, including her former teammates and staff, her management, her sponsors, and the clubs she played for. Of course, all her fans as well as family and friends are not left out of her words of thanks. Without the support, such a "wonderful career" would not have been possible for her. She concludes the post with the sentences: "I am super grateful for every year that God gave me in soccer. Now it's time for a new chapter in my life."
The former captain of the DFB team played a total of 112 international matches for the national team. She became European champion in 2013 and Olympic champion in 2016. In 2023, Marozsan said goodbye to the national team. During her active career, she played for 1. FC Saarbrücken, 1. FFC Frankfurt, Olympique Lyon, and most recently for Al-Qadsiah WFC in Saudi Arabia.
On Instagram, the DFB women's team thanks her in a story with a photo of her and three large heart emojis: "Thank you for everything, Maro!" The women's Bundesliga writes in a post: "A true great leaves the stage! Dzsenifer Marozsan is ending her career. 152 appearances and 43 goals in #DieLiga, three-time German Female Footballer of the Year, and six Champions League victories - absolute world class! Thank you for everything, @10maro10, and only the best for your future!"
