Queen Letizia of Spain (53) chooses her wardrobe carefully. Favorite pieces keep making a comeback: At the 106th ABC Journalism Award on Thursday in Madrid, she once again reached for a design she had already worn in 2021. Her jewelry also tells a long story.
For the evening, Letizia once again opted for black - a color she likes to choose for festive occasions in Spain. The sleeveless dress with a high neckline, wide calf-length skirt, and attached bow appliqués is from the Spanish label The 2nd Skin Co. by designers Juan Carlos Fernández and Antonio Burillo. Letizia first presented the dress in 2021 at the Princess of Asturias Awards.
Jewels with royal history
This time, too, the Queen combined a narrow leather belt and a satin clutch with a crystal-embellished clasp with the outfit. As in 2021, she wore the so-called "joyas de pasar" with the look, a collection of royal heirlooms. She chose round diamond studs and a diamond bracelet that was crafted from a small crown. King Alfonso XIII had gifted this to Queen Victoria Eugenia in 1906 for their wedding. In the future, the jewels are to be passed on to Princess Leonor (20).
At the center of the evening were, of course, the award recipients. Together with King Felipe VI (58), Letizia presided over the ceremony at the headquarters of the newspaper ABC, which was followed by a dinner in honor of the award recipients. The publication is among the country's leading daily newspapers and has been presenting the awards for 106 years, as the Spanish Royal Household writes on Instagram.
In his speech, Felipe honored the profession that his wife also belonged to before their marriage. "There are professions whose true value becomes apparent primarily over time. Journalism is one of them, because while a news story may belong to a single day, good journalism ultimately belongs to the memory of a society", he emphasized.
