U.S. President Donald Trump (80) has paid author E. Jean Carroll (82) compensation of 5.6 million dollars. He owed her the sum, equivalent to approximately 4.9 million euros, after a jury ruled in her favor in a civil trial three years ago. The trial concerned an incident at a luxury department store from the 1990s. The allegations were too old to prosecute criminally. However, in a civil trial, the jury found it proven that Trump had mistreated Carroll and later defamed her.

The U.S. President denies the allegations, which Carroll first raised in 2019 during his first term in office in her memoir. Trump appealed the 2023 verdict and wanted to take it all the way to the Supreme Court. However, the Court declined to hear his case.

Money arrived at E. Jean Carroll this week

Attorney Roberta Kaplan, who represents E. Jean Carroll, stated in a statement to the portal "Axios": "Today we are pleased to announce that she has received the compensation payment that the jury awarded her based on the verdict."

According to media reports, the money, which was deposited in a court account throughout the entire appeals process, was transferred to Carroll this week.

The U.S. President claimed, among other things, that he does not know her. A spokesman for Trump's legal team stated to the "New York Times" that "the American people stand behind President Trump and demand an immediate end to all witch hunts, including the Democrat-funded farce surrounding the Carroll false allegations".

In a second civil trial for defamation, another jury ruled against Donald Trump. In January 2024, the 80-year-old was ordered to pay an additional 83 million dollars to Carroll - however, the U.S. President is still fighting against this.
