The comeback was successful, and now RTL is continuing: The network has announced another season of "Der Lehrer". RTL officially confirmed this on Friday. Hendrik Duryn (58), who recently returned to his signature role as Stefan Vollmer, will remain with the series. The network did not initially provide details about the start date, storyline, or additional cast members.
"Der Lehrer" Returned in May
Just about a month ago, "Der Lehrer" returned to RTL+ and RTL with new episodes after a multi-year hiatus. The series originally launched in 2009, but only received a second season in 2013 after its debut. After that, the show developed into a regular fixture in RTL's programming. Until 2021, Duryn played the unconventional teacher Stefan Vollmer, who supported his students with great dedication, a direct manner, and his own methods.
After Duryn's departure, RTL attempted to continue the series with Simon Böer as the new lead. However, the show was unable to match its previous success, and in 2021 "Der Lehrer" was ultimately canceled. In May 2026, Stefan Vollmer then made a surprising return with six new episodes. The cast was also expanded: Birte Hanusrichter joined as Vollmer's neighbor Nadia Mazur, and Tanja Schleiff appeared as the new principal Vanessa Bohm. Whether both will also participate in the upcoming season remains unclear at this time.
In an interview with news agency spot on news about the series comeback, Duryn had already made it clear that he could well imagine a continuation. "I'm very satisfied with the result. I would very much like to continue this way, preferably next year with ten episodes. I'm incredibly excited about it," he said at the time. That wish is now at least fundamentally being fulfilled.
