The decision appears to have been made: Prince George (12) will attend the secondary school starting in September where his father once studied. Kensington Palace has confirmed this, as various British media outlets reported on Tuesday afternoon.

Currently, George still attends Lambrook School near the former family residence Adelaide Cottage in Windsor together with his two siblings. He will complete his final term there this summer. With this change, George is following in his father's footsteps. Both Prince William (43) and his brother Prince Harry (41) attended the renowned school as teenagers. William enrolled in 1995, with Harry following three years later.

A School with a Long Tradition

Eton College was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI. The exclusive private boys' school is located west of London in the county of Berkshire. The institution is known, among other things, for the Eton Wall Game and the traditional school uniform with tailcoat, striped trousers, and vest. The school has produced around 20 British Prime Ministers. Prominent alumni also include the Duke of Wellington, Bear Grylls, Eddie Redmayne, and Tom Hiddleston.

The education is not inexpensive: According to The Sun, tuition fees of up to 63,000 pounds (approximately 73,000 euros) will be due for Kate and William in the coming year. The family of five moved to Forest Lodge last summer - just a short drive from Eton.

Speculation About Other Schools

Until recently, it was unclear which educational institution the Crown Prince couple would select for their eldest son. Kate and William are said to have visited several alternatives, including Oundle School in Northamptonshire, Marlborough College - where Kate herself attended school - as well as St Edwards in Oxford. According to royal insiders, the Princess of Wales is said to have initially had reservations about an all-boys school like Eton.

With this decision now made, the shared school time of George and his sister Charlotte (11) also comes to an end. Since Eton is an all-boys school, the siblings, who have attended Lambrook School together with brother Louis (8) since 2022, will now go their separate ways. Before George begins his new chapter at Eton, his birthday is still to come. On July 22, the Prince will turn 13 years old, thereby reaching the minimum age for the college. As the eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, George stands second in line to the throne.
