The unusual crime series "Elsbeth" is back for another round. The third season launches on August 8 on Sky and the streaming service Wow. All 20 episodes are available on demand online, and the series will also air linearly on Sky One in double episodes.

In the new episodes, the brilliant, quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston, 59) continues to assist the New York Police Department with Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce, 62) in investigating extraordinary murder cases.

The series largely remains true to its trademark: Instead of keeping the perpetrator's identity secret until the end, viewers often learn from the beginning who is behind the crime. The suspense comes from watching Elsbeth solve the case step by step.

However, the writing team experiments more with this so-called "howcatchem" principle in season three and breaks the proven narrative pattern in several episodes.

New Cases, Quirky Settings

The new cases also take place in plenty of quirky settings and offer unusual scenarios. One investigation takes viewers behind the scenes of a late-night talk show, featuring US host Stephen Colbert (62) as a guest star. In another episode, a dispute over a rare collector's doll in a famous toy store escalates into a hostage situation with deadly consequences.

Additionally, Elsbeth investigates the mysterious death of an influencer from the grief and lifestyle scene, must solve a deadly neighborhood dispute on Halloween, and dives into the New York art and culture scene. Another case ultimately leads her to a monastery after a pop star purchases a religious estate and a mysterious death occurs there.

The third "Elsbeth" season thus once again offers the familiar quality crime entertainment in "Columbo" style with some new twists.
