The guessing game is over: For months there were only hints, now it's clear which format Charlotte Engelhardt (47) and Calvin Kleinen (34) will host together. The two are leading the new RTL+ reality show "Bad Boyfriends - Jetzt wird abgerechnet". Engelhardt, who carried the surname of her ex-husband Paul Würdig (45), also known as Sido, for many years, has now returned to her maiden name. Starting June 30, ten episodes of the new show will be available on the streaming service, released as double episodes over five weeks.
From "Bro Island" to the reckoning
The concept thrives on a twist: Eight men are lured to Tenerife with the promise of sun, a luxury villa, and parties - supposedly for a show called "Bro Island". But this format doesn't actually exist. After the first party comes the surprise: The men meet their own partners, who have had enough "of empty promises, ego trips, controlling behavior, jealousy, lack of appreciation, or chronic immaturity", as stated in an announcement from the streaming service.
While the women stay in the luxury villa, the men move into the so-called "Bro-Zone" - a trailer park far from the pool and comfort. According to the announcement, the couples repeatedly face each other for confrontations and uncomfortable truths. Communication, trust, loyalty, and honesty are put to the test - along with the question of which "Bad Boyfriend" is truly willing to change in the end.
Eight couples put to the test
Eight couples are participating, some of whom already bring reality TV experience: Alenssia and Santino, Angelika and Mirko, Natalia and Tyron, Alessandra and Antonio, Nasrin and Josh, Jeje and Teezy, Michelle and Maki, as well as Larissa and Josua. The participants are known from shows including "Temptation Island", "Der Bachelor", "Köln 50667", "Too Hot to Handle", "Love Island VIP", "Ex on the Beach", or "Das Sommerhaus der Normalos".
"That's when it gets serious"
Host Engelhardt promises more than just pure trash spectacle. "Of course there's drama, tears, arguments, and plenty of emotions. But we also go deep. The men are forced to listen instead of just responding", she is quoted in the announcement. Even the loudest men suddenly became very quiet.
Kleinen describes the moment when the mood shifts like this: "The guys first think: Awesome, 'Bro Island,' guys' vacation, party, and a good time. But then Charlotte comes and clarifies everything. That's when it gets serious." The men have to ask themselves whether they're really such bad partners - and whether they're willing to change something.
For Kleinen, it's his hosting debut, though he brings plenty of reality TV experience. He participated in shows including "Temptation Island" and its VIP edition, "Kampf der Realitystars", "Couple Challenge", or "Ex on the Beach". Charlotte Engelhardt also has insights into the reality world, having already hosted the reunion shows of "Prominent getrennt" and "Princess Charming". Other TV appearances include participations in "Let's Dance" or "Die Verräter - Vertraue Niemandem!" She first gained recognition hosting the ProSieben formats "Do It Yourself - SOS" and "taff".
