Prince William and Princess Kate (both 44) took their two oldest children to Wimbledon on Sunday. The Prince and Princess of Wales appeared at the men's singles final together with Prince George (12) and Princess Charlotte (11). When the family entered the Royal Box, the spectators rose from their seats and gave them a standing ovation, as the US magazine "People" reports.
On the grass of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club that afternoon, Italian player Jannik Sinner aimed to defend his previous year's title. His opponent was German player Alexander Zverev. For George and Charlotte, it was not their first afternoon at Centre Court; in recent years, the siblings had already attended several men's finals.
Color-coordinated in the Royal Box
The family dressed up for the festive occasion. Kate wore a green cape dress by designer Emilia Wickstead. Charlotte chose a royal blue summer dress, while William and George both appeared in dark blue suits with ties.
Kate has a special role at this tournament. As patron of the club, she traditionally presents the trophies to the finalists. She has been bringing her tennis-enthusiastic children to Wimbledon since 2022.
Prince George was the first to attend in July 2022. A few days before his ninth birthday, he watched the men's final alongside his parents. One year later, Charlotte made her Wimbledon debut at the same age. Together with George and their parents, she cheered excitedly from the Royal Box and celebrated enthusiastically when Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz secured the victory.
In 2024, Charlotte attended the men's final together with her mother and aunt Pippa. For Kate, this appearance was of particular significance: She was received with standing ovations while undergoing treatment for a medical condition.
Last summer, Kate once again made the men's final a family affair, bringing George and Charlotte along with William. Both children had packed their sunglasses and took home a special souvenir: tennis balls signed by Sinner.
A ball for Prince Louis
After the match, William, Kate and the children met with the newly crowned champion. The Italian signed three balls, one of them for the family's youngest son, Prince Louis (now 8), who was not present. "We brought one for their brother as well", Kate explained. William added with a laugh: "Louis would have been very disappointed otherwise."
