For Prince William (44), two celebratory occasions coincide this year: The British heir to the throne celebrates his 44th birthday and British Father's Day this Sunday. For the special day, the royal family has published a previously unreleased photo showing William alongside his daughter Princess Charlotte (11). The picture was taken in the gardens of Kensington Palace, following the Trooping the Colour birthday parade last week.

A loving message from the family

The picture is accompanied by heartfelt words, signed by William's wife Princess Kate (44) and their three children. "Happy Birthday and Father's Day to the best dad in the world! We love you very much", it reads. The message is signed with the initials "C, G, C & L" - for Catherine, George (12), Charlotte and Louis (8) - along with a small heart.

The special day concludes one of the busiest phases in the royal calendar. Recently, William appeared at events including the Order of the Garter ceremony as well as the traditional Royal Ascot horse racing event.

Four years as Prince of Wales

The birthday also marks another anniversary: Four years ago, King Charles bestowed upon his son the title Prince of Wales - following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

After a time marked by concern surrounding Princess Kate's cancer diagnosis, the 44-year-old is likely to spend his birthday deliberately in the company of his family. Since the special day coincides with Father's Day this year, he will presumably celebrate it privately at home with his three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, British media speculate.

King Charles thinks of his son and his father

King Charles (77) also sent his son public birthday wishes via Instagram Story. "Happy Birthday to the Prince of Wales", is written alongside a photo of the two together.

Meanwhile, a touching tribute to King Charles's father, who passed away in 2021, appears in the royal feed. Alongside an older photo together of Prince Philip and his son, it reads: "We celebrate all fathers today and think of those who wish they could be with their fathers."
