Shortly before Prince Harry's (41) expected trip to Great Britain, King Charles (77) has gathered close members of the royal family around him. On Tuesday (June 30), the relatives came together for a rare dinner at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland, as the Daily Mail reported on July 1. According to the report, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward were in attendance.
The reason for the stay is the annual Royal Week, during which numerous high-ranking royals are currently in Scotland. According to the Daily Mail, it was a so-called dine and sleep - a dinner with an overnight stay at the palace afterward - ahead of the Order of the Thistle service on Wednesday.
First Family Visit in Four Years
The meeting comes at a time when Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan (44) are preparing their return to the island. As People confirmed, the two want to bring their children to Great Britain for the first time in four years. Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5) were last in Harry's homeland in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.
According to the magazine's information, the trip is scheduled for July. Harry intends to fulfill several appointments, including events around the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games 2027 in Birmingham as well as for other charitable purposes. The children are expected to travel along, but according to People will not participate in public appearances.
Dispute Over Personal Protection
The Sussexes lost their state-funded personal protection in Great Britain when they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 - Harry has been working to have it restored ever since. Sources familiar with the process reported that he and Meghan were initially promised an independent review by the so-called Risk Management Board for March. However, last week they learned that it never took place.
The Duke continues to explore every available option to make the visit safe and give his children the opportunity to experience Great Britain, according to a statement from June 29. After losing his appeal in May 2025, Harry had told the BBC that he couldn't imagine a world in which he would bring his wife and children to his homeland without protection.
Brief Visit Under Discussion
Currently, the Sussexes are vacationing in Europe according to People - possibly to help the children adjust to the time difference from their home in California. Over the weekend, the Telegraph reported that Harry is considering flying Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet to Great Britain for just one day to meet King Charles - a reunion without the disputed protection.
A source told the newspaper that the Duke of Sussex simply wants his children to see their grandfather. Charles continues to be treated for a form of cancer.
