As part of the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Dustin Hoffman (88) was honored for his contributions to the art of film, accompanied by his wife Lisa (71). The two-time Oscar winner received the Crystal Globe for his contribution to world cinema at the end of the opening ceremony in Karlovy Vary.
The long-time Hollywood star, famous for films such as Rain Man, Tootsie, and Kramer vs. Kramer, among others, showed himself to be extremely grateful during the award ceremony, according to the festival. 'I feel honored and humbled by this award,' Hoffman explained, recalling an anecdote. When he filmed with a young Robert Redford (1936-2025) many years ago, his colleague told him that he never thought about Hoffman's body of work because Hoffman was currently busy creating it.
Why Dustin Hoffman fell in love with acting
Hoffman also spoke about his beginnings: 'I fell in love with acting back then because it made me feel lost in time for the first time. It gives me the feeling of being alive.' If one is lucky, one day you become an old man like him and your life's work looks back at you from the screen. 'It makes me very emotional and very nostalgic,' he explained. The actor is particularly grateful 'that I had the opportunity to do what I love, decade after decade.'
The opening ceremony on July 3rd was followed by a screening of The Match, the festival's opening film. The 60th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival takes place until July 11th.
