Well-known TV commentator and former jungle camp participant Jörg Dahlmann (67) shares a concerning update on Instagram about his health. After recently revealing that he has been diagnosed with cancer again, he is facing a major procedure on his liver. The organ will be divided, he explains in a video published on the social media platform.
In the clip, Dahlmann first expresses his gratitude for the support he has recently received. He speaks of "truly overwhelming support that you're giving me, and the encouraging words". A planned operation has been postponed "because a few tests had to be done", the 67-year-old reports. "And now the plan is that the liver will essentially be divided."
"I would then die"
The right lobe of the liver, "which is also affected by bad cells and the tumor", will be slowly cut off. This is intended to enlarge the left lobe of the liver, which according to Dahlmann "is not viable on its own". In a second operation, the right lobe will then be removed, "so that the left lobe of the liver, which is now being enhanced, is actually viable". The TV star wants to provide another update when there is news or when he is hopefully on the road to recovery again.
"In my case, the tumor is located in the right lobe of the liver, which must be completely removed", Dahlmann writes alongside the video. "However, the left lobe of the liver must then take over the function completely. Since my left lobe of the liver is too small, the risk would be too great that with an immediate removal of the right part, the remaining liver wouldn't function. I would then die. That's why the liver will now be divided and the right part will be left to die off gradually by clamping off the blood supply. This automatically causes the left lobe of the liver to grow and after a certain period of time it can restore 80 percent of the original liver volume. Crazy!"
Just in mid-June, the TV commentator and former jungle camp participant confirmed in an interview with the broadcaster RTL that he had been diagnosed with cancer again. He had received such a diagnosis for the fourth time. "A tumor was found in my liver", Dahlmann said. Already in 2005, he had received a diagnosis of colon cancer. Because the tumor had been detected early, only part of the colon had to be removed. Later followed a skin cancer diagnosis as well as a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2016.
