A planned biopic about the late fashion designer Giorgio Armani is already causing controversy before filming begins. The Armani Group and the fashion mogul's family have now clarified that they have neither authorized nor supported the film project.

In a statement, the Armani Group explained according to "Deadline", that while they were informed about the film project "Armani: The King of Fashion", they had not participated in its development or production at any point. The company stated that it has neither approved, supported, nor endorsed the project and expressly distances itself from both the director and the content of the film.

Bille August directs

The film is being made under the direction of two-time Palme d'Or winner Bille August. The biopic is being produced by Andrea Iervolino, who previously was responsible for the film "Ferrari", among others. According to current information, the film is intended to trace Armani's private and professional career.

The screenplay is being written by Bobby Moresco, Oscar winner for "Crash". Moresco has already collaborated with Iervolino several times and is currently also directing his upcoming film "Maserati: The Brothers" with Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia and Jessica Alba.

Unauthorized film adaptations of famous fashion houses are not uncommon. Ridley Scott's 2021 film "House of Gucci" was already made without the involvement of the Gucci heirs. They later publicly criticized the film and accused it of numerous factual errors.
