Their marriage was dissolved in 2015. And yet ex-wife Melanie Griffith (68) still means a great deal to Antonio Banderas (65). The Spanish Hollywood star revealed this once again in conversation with the US magazine "People".

Antonio Banderas counts ex-wife among his "best friends"

Griffith is "if not my best friend, then one of my best friends", Banderas said. Whenever he travels to Los Angeles, "we meet of course and have a lot of fun. We laugh and we ... It's a very healthy thing, and it was also very healthy for our children".

There is no special secret he could share with others for this good kind of relationship between ex-spouses. Banderas only emphasized that they "separated in a friendly way", which "was very important to us". Griffith is also "an incredible mother".

Reportedly met at Oscar ceremony

Griffith and Banderas reportedly first met at the 1989 Oscar ceremony. In 1995, they starred together in the romantic comedy "Two Much - Eine Blondine zuviel". Their wedding followed in May 1996. Their daughter Stella was born in the same year as their wedding. After their separation in 2014, the divorce was finalized in 2015.

Antonio Banderas also maintains a close relationship with Griffith's other children - actress Dakota Johnson (36) from her marriage to Don Johnson (76) and son Alexander Bauer (40) from her relationship with Steven Bauer (69).

Heart attack changed his life

The 65-year-old also spoke about other aspects of his life in the interview. He mentioned once again that his heart attack in 2017 changed his view of life.

"It was like someone put glasses on me so I could see the reality that I hadn't seen before. I was just overthinking stupid things", Banderas said. "Sometimes we forget that we're going to die ... The only thing that interests me now is the experience of life."
