The new episodes will expand the universe around the lakeside summer destination and follow the novel "One Golden Summer" by Carley Fortune. At the same time, the series will continue the beloved stories and characters from season one. The renewal was announced as part of Prime Video's "Obsessed Fest". On platform X, the provider celebrated the return with the words: "Surprise! We're returning to Barry's Bay for season two."
Who's returning
Behind the scenes, the team remains largely intact according to the "Hollywood Reporter". Amy B. Harris serves once again as showrunner, author Carley Fortune remains on board as executive producer. Also joining as executive producers are Lindsey Liberatore, Amy Rardin, John Stephens, and Grace Gilroy. In front of the camera, the cast includes Sadie Soverall, Matt Cornett, Michael Bradway, Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen, and Joseph Chiu, among others.
"The response to 'Every Year After' has been truly extraordinary", explained Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement. The company is excited to return to Barry's Bay and offer the audience "another deeply emotional and unforgettable chapter".
The first season was based on a bestseller by Carley Fortune and told the love story of Persephone "Percy" Fraser (Soverall) and Sam Florek (Cornett) - two once best friends who became a couple and lost each other. Across different timelines, Percy returns to Barry's Bay, the lakeside place where she spent her summers as a teenager and fell in love with Sam. The occasion is the funeral of the Florek brothers' mother - and a long-hidden betrayal catches up with them both.
Showrunner Harris has already hinted at what comes next. "This season was about the if, next season is about the how", she told the "Hollywood Reporter" regarding Percy and Sam's story.
Charlie now takes center stage
In season two, with "One Golden Summer", Sam's older brother Charlie moves into focus, played by Michael Bradway. The season finale had already clearly teased this continuation. "Of course Charlie hasn't found his person yet - but we all know who that is", Bradway revealed to the "Hollywood Reporter" regarding his character's cliffhanger.
That the series is being renewed comes as little surprise: Fortune's novels have already sold 4.7 million copies, according to the report. "One Golden Summer" reportedly spent 20 weeks on the "New York Times" bestseller list. Beyond "Every Year After", Fortune novels will continue to be adapted - "This Summer Will Be Different" and "Meet Me at the Lake" are being developed for Netflix, according to reports.
