Three years after the submersible "Titan" disaster, Christine Dawood is addressing a German TV audience for the first time. On Friday (July 3rd), the Rosenheim native will appear live at 6:45 PM as a guest on "DAS! Rote Sofa" on NDR television. During a dive to the wreck of the "Titanic" in June 2023, she lost her husband Shahzada Dawood and her son Suleman.
According to the announcement, this is the first time Dawood has spoken about the loss in a German media outlet. The case made headlines worldwide. In the conversation, she wants to draw attention to the people behind the news stories and share her own perspective on the events, as NDR announces for this episode of the talk show.
The traumatic hours of the rescue mission
According to the broadcaster, Dawood reports on the final moments before the dive and the 96 hours aboard the search vessel that she endured during the rescue operation. The difficult time after the disaster is also a topic of conversation. The Rosenheim native provides insights into how she dealt with a loss that was followed publicly around the world. At the same time, she talks about her path back to life.
The project "Pathway of Light" played a special role - a memorial hike of around 3,000 kilometers for her son Suleman. According to NDR, the journey was an important step for Dawood in the search for a new identity and for a life in which there is room again for hope and confidence alongside grief.
What happened on June 18, 2023
Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman died on June 18, 2023 in the submersible "Titan" on the way to the wreck of the "Titanic". Also on board were the submersible operator Stockton Rush, British entrepreneur Hamish Harding, and French "Titanic" expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
About two hours after launch, contact with the "Titan" was lost, followed by a days-long search. Eventually, the debris was found at a depth of approximately 3,800 meters on the ocean floor - about 500 meters from the wreck of the "Titanic", which sank in 1912.
"DAS! Rote Sofa" with Christine Dawood will air live on NDR on Friday, July 3rd, at 6:45 PM. The program will subsequently be available in the ARD Mediathek.
