Iconic rock band Aerosmith has cut short its farewell tour. Singer Steven Tyler (75) suffered a vocal cord injury last Saturday during only the third performance of the 'Peace Out: The Farewell Tour' in Elmont, New York state, as the band announced on Instagram. Six planned tour dates for September had to be postponed as a result.
Steven Tyler may not sing for 30 days
"I suffered vocal cord damage during Saturday's show," Tyler explained on the group's official Instagram channel. He said the injury led to "subsequent bleeding." Now, the singer has to take it easy for 30 days on the orders of his doctors, he said, and is not allowed to sing. According to him, the postponement of the tour dates makes him "inconsolable".
Aerosmith continue tour in October
Aerosmith are currently on their big farewell tour. A total of 40 shows are scheduled in the United States and Canada. The scheduled concerts in Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Raleigh and Washington, D.C., are to be made up starting Jan. 29, 2024. As it stands now, the 'Peace Out: The Farewell Tour' continues on October 11 in Tampa, Florida.
In May of this year, the band, which was formed in Boston in 1970, had announced its intention to say goodbye to its fans with the tour that is currently underway. The group is touring with its original lineup consisting of Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry (73), bassist Tom Hamilton (71) and guitarist Brad Whitford (71). Only drummer Joey Kramer (73) is represented by John Douglas. The drummer had declared in March 2022 that he wanted to temporarily sit out.
Aerosmith celebrated great success from 1975 onwards with their best-known hit 'Walk this Way'. In the 1990s, the group inspired a whole new generation of fans with songs like 'Cryin', 'Crazy' and 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing'.
