About two decades ago, the first episode aired, and today there are over a thousand: The VOX docu-soap "Goodbye Deutschland! Die Auswanderer" is turning 20 years old. To celebrate the anniversary, the network will show four special editions in the summer, as announced in a press release.

The format launched on August 15, 2006. Since then, it has accompanied around 1,900 emigrations, resulting in more than 1,000 films. The protagonists' journeys led to Vietnam, Paraguay or Egypt, to Australia and New Zealand, or even to the Amazon.

Four episodes, three premieres

The celebration runs from July 20 to August 10, airing Mondays at 8:15 PM. Three of the four episodes are premieres, plus one best-of. The kick-off on July 20 is a two-hour episode with the theme "Four emigrants on four continents".

VOX visits former protagonists: Christian Blankenhorn lives with his family in the Brazilian rainforest, Thomas Mildenberger is building a new life after his wife's death, Marie and Olaf Heidtke's marriage broke up in South Africa, and the Lehmann family in North America is facing a generational change.

On July 27, two stories follow: Peggy and Steff tie the knot after decades on Mallorca, and the episode also features emigrant Ute and her partner Kwesi in Gambia. The three-hour edition on August 3 focuses on Zanzibar - with updates on Levke Kersting, Angi Wolf, Melanie Sitter, and emigrant Luisa Dopmeyer.

Daniela Katzenberger hosts the best-of

The finale on August 10 is the "Best of - 20 Jahre GBD". In it, the network looks back at participants who became famous through the show, including the Reimann family, the Mermi-Schmelz family, Marco and Tamara Gülpen, as well as Daniela Katzenberger. The reality star also hosts the show.
