Bernd Stelter (65) is getting a new hip joint. The cabaret artist and author told "RTL" in an interview that his right hip is so badly worn that it needs to be replaced. Before the procedure, Stelter has lost 22 kilograms, according to his own statements. What's also remarkable is how he talks about the upcoming hospital stay. "I don't know if there are people who look forward to surgery. I do", he told the network.
He learned about the deterioration of his right hip last November. Surgery hasn't been performed to this day, and for a practical reason: The 65-year-old's schedule initially included tour dates with his solo program "Reg' dich nicht auf. Gibt nur Falten!". The procedure is scheduled for the time after the tour ends.
Clear Instructions from the Doctor
However, Stelter didn't remain idle in the meantime. His doctor gave him a clear directive for the months before the operation, reports the singer of the carnival hit "Ich hab drei Haare auf der Brust": "It was: lose a few kilos and train, train, train."
He implemented this with a dietary change and 10,000 steps daily. The entertainer has since lost 22 kilograms. But according to his words, the biggest health change is a different one: After decades, he quit smoking. "I smoked from the age of 15, 16", he told the network.
The star has also chosen a new motto: "There are five Ls: walk, learn, love, laugh, let go." He's now satisfied with the result: "Now I'm pretty much where I want to be."
New Crime Novel
Stelter is currently promoting his new book "Die kalte Hand des Camping-Killers", the fifth case in his camping crime series featuring investigator Piet van Houvenkamp. Like its predecessors, this Dutch crime novel is also set in the Dutch province of Zeeland.
