Meryl Streep (77) sang a birthday serenade for Geri Halliwell-Horner on her 54th birthday. The sweet scene took place on Thursday, August 6, on the set of the series Only Murders in the Building, in which both are appearing in the sixth season. Halliwell-Horner posted a video of it on Instagram.

The two women stand cheek to cheek in the footage. Streep starts her very own version of Happy Birthday, while Halliwell-Horner beams. "The best birthday gift ever," the singer wrote. And continued: "Spending my birthday with the extraordinary Meryl Streep was a moment I will always treasure. Thank you, @onlymurdershulu, for making it so special."

British reinforcements for season six

The fact that the two even meet at the same filming location is thanks to the sixth season of the crime comedy. Halliwell-Horner is new to the cast, as are Martin Freeman, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi and Lesley Nicol. Streep is also returning in season six.

The reason for the British lineup: The new episodes are set in London. Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short) investigate the death of true-crime podcaster Cinda Canning, played by Tina Fey.

Filming has been underway since May

The series' official Instagram account already announced the start of production in May. A behind-the-scenes photo showed Short, Gomez, Martin and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, who plays Detective Donna Williams, along with part of the team. The caption was brief: "Season 6, Day 1!", garnished with a British flag.

The series is also highly regarded in the industry. This year, Only Murders in the Building collected two Emmy nominations, including one in the Best Comedy Series category. Martin Short was also nominated as Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The previous seasons are available on the streaming service Hulu.
