David Beckham (51) has been immortalized on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. At the ceremony on Friday, however, not only the new star stood out, but also two names: Tom Cruise (63), of all people, stepped up to the microphone to honor the former soccer star - while his eldest son Brooklyn Beckham (27) was notably absent from the celebration, as expected.
Cruise rarely appears publicly in Los Angeles. For Beckham, he made an exception. What's remarkable is not where Beckham stands today, but how it all began, said the Mission: Impossible star in his speech: Every chapter of his life and career was based on one and the same thing: hard work and dedication.
Cruise: A Hollywood story
Long before the trophies, the sold-out stadiums and the worldwide fame, there was a boy with a dream who achieved everything through determination and discipline. That's exactly why the Walk of Fame is the right place to celebrate him, Cruise continued. Beckham's career is a Hollywood story - that of a person who believed in something greater than himself, fought for every opportunity and ultimately shaped his sport and culture worldwide.
With his appearance, Cruise also explained why the English athlete deserves an honor that is usually reserved for entertainers based in the United States. Numerous prominent companions came to the ceremony, including James Corden, Eva Longoria and former soccer players Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and Kyle Martino. Also standing by Beckham's side were his wife Victoria and their children Romeo, Cruz and Harper.
Brooklyn Beckham is missing
Conspicuously absent, however, was the eldest son Brooklyn. His absence comes nearly five months after he spoke out sharply against his parents in several social media posts. David and Victoria, according to the accusation, had constantly tried to destroy his relationship with wife Nicola Peltz.
In January, Brooklyn wrote in his Instagram stories: I am not being controlled, I am standing up for myself for the first time in my life. He explicitly denied any desire for reconciliation with his family at the time.
