It would be a major coup for Disney: According to new rumors, there could be a new installment in the "Home Alone" film series, featuring the original Kevin himself. Now 45 years old, Macaulay Culkin played the titular troublemaker Kevin back then. As is now being speculated, he could return in front of the cameras to portray an adult version of the character.
In the comedy from the early 1990s, Culkin played young Kevin McCallister, who is forgotten alone in his parents' house and gives two burglars hell. He also returned as Kevin in the sequel "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York." However, he had nothing to do with further installments of the film series. Journalist Matt Belloni has now talked on his podcast "The Town" about what exciting rumors are currently circulating.
A passion project in exchange for a new "Home Alone"?
Belloni reportedly received a tip "that there was a very interesting sighting on the Disney lot." Macaulay Culkin was there. Disney's mouth is already watering at the thought of a new "Home Alone" film.
Culkin is currently being courted extensively and has allegedly been offered the opportunity to realize a passion project if he agrees to star in another "Home Alone" film. For Disney, this is very promising, as Belloni notes that the first comedy consistently ranks high on streaming charts from October through Christmas. Further details are not yet known, and neither Culkin nor Disney have commented on the potential project.
However, Culkin has actually already discussed an idea for a sequel last year. According to industry magazine "Variety," the actor said during his "A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin" tour in November 2025 that he wouldn't be fundamentally opposed to a new "Home Alone" film - he's "not completely allergic" to it. In his version, Kevin McCallister would be either widowed or divorced and raising a child. However, he doesn't pay enough attention to his son, and therefore gets locked out by him. His son then sets traps for Kevin as he tries to get into the house.
