It is the first Father's Day that Kimberly Van Der Beek has to observe without her husband. On Sunday (June 21), the widow of James Van Der Beek turned to Instagram to address her late love and honored the actor with a long, emotional post. The "Dawson's Creek" star had died of colorectal cancer in February at the age of 48.

"I miss you so much and am thinking today about how amazing you were in every single way", the 44-year-old wrote in her caption. She continued: "And somehow, from the other side, you continue to provide as a father. You are a miracle."

More than a Dozen Family Photos

Accompanying her words, Kimberly Van Der Beek posted more than a dozen pictures online. They show the actor together with all six of their children, as well as images showing him alone with each individual son and daughter.

James and Kimberly Van Der Beek had met in 2009 on a trip to Israel. They married one year later. The marriage produced daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia, and Gwendolyn, as well as sons Joshua and Jeremiah.

James Van Der Beek had made his cancer diagnosis public in November 2024. Kimberly Van Der Beek announced her husband's death earlier this year, also on Instagram. Accompanying a professional photo of the actor, she wrote: "Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He faced his final days with courage, faith, and dignity."

Daughter Emilia Finds Comfort

Already in March, on James Van Der Beek's first birthday after his death, daughter Emilia had spoken out in a video on her mother's Instagram account. The nine-year-old said: "I know that my daddy is in a good place. He's not in pain anymore. He's in heaven above the clouds, with God and the Lord."

Her father had left her with something, she recounted: If things didn't turn out the way he and the family had hoped for his survival, she should still believe in miracles. "Miracles can still happen, just later in life, and they will keep coming", Emilia conveyed her father's words.
