Duchess Meghan (41) and Prince Harry (38) are welcome guests on the red carpets in the USA. Nevertheless, the U.S.-British couple has not yet appeared at a major U.S. award ceremony. And the two also skipped the famous Met Gala on Monday (May 1). The Duke, and Duchess, of Sussex stayed in California instead while the fashion event was held in New York City. But why were they absent?
Speculation about Duchess Meghan's participation in this year's Met Gala had been discussed, again and again in the run-up, as reported amongst others by the 'Mirror'. One reason for their absence was said to be the high level of security they would need at this high-profile event. But this could not be guaranteed - so the only logical consequence was a 'no-show'.
The Oscar presentation also burst
The pair were also in talks to host the Oscars, in 2018, but even then logistics and security concerns prevented them from doing so. "Teams were on the phone back and forth, there were even some fashion requests," blogger Elaine Lui wrote on her homepage at the time. Meghan and Harry were still working royals, at the time, which may have added more complications.
Harry and Meghan have retired from their roles in the royal family in 2020
On Friday the British prince will fly back to his homeland to attend the coronation (May 6) of, his father, King Charles III (74). Duchess Meghan will stay in California with the two children to celebrate the fourth birthday of her son, Archie, which will take place on the same day as the coronation of Charles.
