The Wacken Open Air is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. From July 29 to August 1, the municipality of Wacken in Schleswig-Holstein will once again transform into the meeting place for metal fans from around the world. Around one week before the festival starts, there is important information for visitors regarding tickets, travel and camping.
Camping
Tickets are now completely sold out. The festival announced this on Tuesday afternoon on its official website.
Those who want to camp on the festival grounds can arrive starting Sunday, July 26, at 9 a.m. The camping areas will remain open until Sunday, August 2, at 12 p.m. Camping is included in the ticket price. However, arriving with a vehicle requires a so-called Access Pass.
New this year is the Silent Doom area on the campground. Generators are not allowed there at night, and boomboxes may not be used. After the last performance, quiet hours apply. For visitors arriving later, Wacken also offers the Last Resort option. This is designed to ensure festival guests arriving on Friday or Saturday still get a camping spot near the festival grounds and Wacken Plaza. Last Resort campers can arrive starting Friday, July 31, at 9 a.m. and stay until Sunday, August 2, at 12 p.m.
Those who want to stay at the campsite without a car can use Split Camping. The core idea is the separation of parking and camping. For travelers with motorhomes or camper trailers, there is also the Camper Park with pitches in various sizes and electrical hookups. In addition, the festival offers premium camping options, which are already sold out.
Travel
Festival visitors can arrive via three routes. The festival explains on the website: There are again three routes (square, circle, triangle) that lead you directly from the A7 or A23 highway via three access roads to the W:O:A Campground.
The route had to be selected when booking the Access Pass. Those arriving by public transport can use the free shuttle from Itzehoe train station.
What the Weather Forecast Says
Rain and mud have become part of the festival experience at Wacken Open Air for many fans. This year, the weather situation at the start of the festival is still mixed according to the current forecast: On the first day of camping, July 26, rain is expected. Showers may also occur in the following days. Maximum temperatures before the official festival start are expected to be between 64 and 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
At the start of the festival on July 29, there could also be rain - with temperatures up to 73 degrees Fahrenheit. After that, the probability of rain should decrease. The warmest days are expected to be August 1 and 2. Temperatures could then rise up to 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
