Vinícius Júnior (25) briefly lost his composure during a television appearance. On the Brazilian show "Domingão com Huck", the Real Madrid offensive star was shown a video message from his grandmother Dona Nilza on Sunday. The usually cool national team player completely broke down in tears.
In the clip, Nilza reminisced about her grandson's childhood: Back then, everything revolved around the ball for the boy. She also revealed that he slept in the same bed as her until the age of 16.
Vinícius Junior: "I'm at a loss for words"
When the Real star wanted to react to the declaration of love, his voice failed him. Only a little later did he find it again. "She is a very special person. Because my father always lived far away, I was always with my mother, my siblings, and my grandmother. The house was small, so I slept in the same bed as her for a long time. I'm at a loss for words", he said in his statement, while tears of emotion ran down his cheeks.
How grateful he is to his grandma for everything, Vinícius emphasized afterward: "She has significantly shaped my life. I know that for every person, the moment of farewell comes at some point, so I enjoy every moment with her", said the 25-year-old. His family had done everything so that he could live his dream: "Seeing her happy is priceless."
Waiting for the sixth star
Athletically, Vinícius' entire ambition is meanwhile focused on the big dream: the World Cup title with Brazil. The Seleção has so far been chasing the sixth star for the sixth World Cup trophy in vain. "This is a generation that is fighting hard to lead Brazil to the top", said the forward.
