A goal, a stand full of cheering people and in the middle of it all a woman who remains seated: Victoria Beckham (52) unintentionally became a meme at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico with a scene from the England quarterfinal. After Sunday's final, the fashion designer gave her verdict on the World Cup.
The 52-year-old followed the tournament for weeks alongside her husband David (51), who used to play for England himself. Daughter Harper (15) as well as sons Romeo (23) and Cruz (21) were also often sitting in the stands. Oldest son Brooklyn (27) was once again absent after publicly distancing himself from his famous parents.
A loving photo to say goodbye to the tournament
On Sunday, Spain won the final against Argentina 1-0. Victoria Beckham then posted a picture of herself and her husband from the stadium in her Instagram story. In it, the couple, who have been married since 1999, are holding hands. Addressing her loved one, Victoria Beckham wrote with the picture: "I loved our journey! I love you."
Previously, she had made an impact on the tournament in a completely different way. During the quarterfinal between England and Norway in Miami, the cameras focused on the family box, and what was seen there spread across the internet within hours. When Jude Bellingham scored one of his goals, David, Romeo, Cruz and Harper threw their arms up like many others in the stadium, the whole section went wild. Victoria Beckham, on the other hand, remained seated next to her hairstylist Ken Paves without showing any emotion. On X and elsewhere, users mocked the moment and the lack of enthusiasm at the tournament.
David Beckham defended his wife
When comedian Jenny Johnson ironically picked up on the designer's reaction, David Beckham responded. Along with a laughing-crying emoji, he wrote on Instagram that his wife was celebrating on the inside, her reactions were just a bit slower than his.
The fact that Victoria Beckham sits in stadiums at all was not a given for a long time. By her own account, she was not a fan and never really felt welcome in this role at games, as she revealed to the Financial Times in 2024. That only changed after her husband ended his career and built the club Inter Miami in Miami. In Miami she feels welcome and is friends with the players' families: "It's a completely different experience. It's fun."
