Jessie J (38) has separated from her partner Chanan Safir Colman (42). The British singer announced the end of the relationship publicly on Instagram together with her ex-partner. The split from the father of her child reportedly happened some time ago but has only now been made public.
Jessie J speaks of a "sad and difficult situation"
"Chanan and I decided some time ago to end our romantic relationship. It has been a sad and difficult situation, but we have focused on managing this change privately and positively to create a healthy and happy environment for co-parenting our son and for ourselves," the post reads, for which Jessie J has disabled the comment function.
Why the singer announced the split herself
Jessie J provided the reason for the public statement right away. In the spotlight, this is the easiest way to tell the truth before rumors circulate or a false narrative emerges. "We will always support each other as friends and above all as Sky's mom and dad with love, respect and care," the musician continues in the Instagram post.
So whoever sees them together as a family or discovers them on social media sees exactly that. "We are raising Sky together and love him, supported by a positive friendship," the post continues. Jessie J has around 13.9 million followers on Instagram.
Met during a difficult phase
Initial reports of a relationship between the "Price Tag" singer and the basketball player surfaced in 2021. They only made their relationship public in 2023. Jessie J met her later partner just a few weeks after a miscarriage. Their son Sky was born in May 2023.
They were in no hurry to get married. They constantly talk about it and laugh about it, she told "People" magazine in 2025, and surely it will happen at some point, but they're just not in a rush. If it were to happen, she wanted to experience the moment when Sky was old enough to understand what was happening and could be part of it. A child together, she reasoned at the time, is the strongest connection two people can have anyway. As a father, Colman had exceeded her expectations.
By her side during treatment
The former professional athlete also accompanied Jessie J through her illness. The musician had made the early-stage diagnosis public to support others affected. The surgery followed in June 2025. Her partner and son visited her in the hospital, and she expressed gratitude online for her family's support. Last August, she had to undergo further treatment and postpone or cancel tour dates.
Then two months ago came the news she had been waiting for so long: Jessica Cornish, as the singer is known by her real name, is disease-free, she announced herself in a moving Instagram post. She revealed that she had "cried for hours" when the doctors were able to give her the good news.
She shared a video of herself in the hospital on Instagram and wrote overjoyed: "The results are in and I am disease-free!" She added: "I cried for hours and then took a deep breath for the first time in a year."
