US Vice President J.D. Vance (41) and his wife Usha Vance (40) have become parents for the fourth time. Their son was born on Sunday morning, July 19, and bears the name Alec Neel Vance. The couple announced the birth on the same day in a joint post on social media.
"We are overjoyed to announce the birth of our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, this morning", the statement read. "Usha and the baby are doing well, and our children are thrilled to meet their little brother." The couple expressly thanked the military doctors and staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as well as the White House Medical Unit. Their dedication to the family had been a blessing.
Three Siblings Waiting at Home
Alec is the youngest of four children of the couple. Before him came sons Ewan (9) and Vivek (6) as well as daughter Mirabel (4). The Vance couple had announced the pregnancy on January 20 on Instagram, at that time with the note that the boy was expected in late July.
Already in that announcement, the thanks went to the military doctors. They were particularly grateful during an exciting and hectic time for the people who enabled the family to serve the country while also leading a beautiful life with their children, the couple wrote at the time.
A Case for the History Books
With the birth, Usha Vance joins a very short list. She is only the second wife of a US Vice President to have a child during her husband's term in office. Before her, that was Ellen Colfax, the wife of Schuyler Colfax, who served under President Ulysses S. Grant. She gave birth to a son in 1870, one year after her husband took office.
