Zac Efron (38) has taken on an unusual construction project: The US actor, known from "High School Musical" and most recently from the wrestling drama "The Iron Claw", is having a home built in Australia - with an unusual basic building material: Almost the entire house is to be made from hemp plants.

According to a report by the "Australian Financial Review", the property is located on around 128 hectares on the border between Queensland and New South Wales. The building materials are reportedly being sourced from a local company. But it's not just the walls that will be made from hemp: Cushions, curtains and mattresses are also to be made from the renewable raw material. The house itself will include six bedrooms, a spacious living area and a roof garden.

Visionary Designer with Big Plans

Behind the project is Australian sustainability designer Joost Bakker, with whom Efron is working closely. In May, Bakker shared a group photo on Instagram with Efron and other team members - with the comment: "I'm super excited to get started on Zac's house! My special thanks go to these two legends @main__frank, who worked so hard to design and get this project approved!" The planning and official approval of the unconventional project was apparently no easy task.

Bakker also told the Australian business newspaper that he even wants to try to build a washing machine from hemp.

From the Field to the Kitchen

At the end of May, Bakker followed up: In a joint Instagram post with the company Plant Bord, he addressed how farmers who grow food could simultaneously supply the sustainable raw materials for building kitchens and bathrooms. Specifically, this concerns Efron's planned kitchen and bathroom installations. The panels used are to be made from environmentally friendly materials. The photo shows the three of them during a site visit in the field.

Efron, who has been living and working in Australia repeatedly for years, is making a clear statement with this project.
