Martin Brambach (58) is trading the crime scene for the bicycle saddle: In the WDR documentary "Martin Brambach radelt durchs Revier", which airs Friday evening at 8:15 PM on WDR television, the beloved actor embarks on a journey of discovery through his adopted home, the Ruhr area.
On a bike tour covering approximately 75 miles, the Dresden-born "Tatort" star explores the region where he has lived for around 20 years. His route takes him along former railway lines, through green landscapes, and to numerous special places and people of the Ruhr area.
Llamas, Meatballs, and Authentic Ruhr Valley Vibes
During his tour, Brambach makes stops including a visit to the "Prachtlamas" of sports scientist Beate Pracht. He also visits "Holgers Erzbahnbude", a cult meeting point for cyclists located directly on the Erzbahn trail. There, he enjoys a meatball and conversations with locals, soaking up the typical Ruhr Valley atmosphere. "The best way for me to discover my home is by bicycle. There are so many unique landscapes, art and culture, traditions, and very special people here", Brambach raves ahead of the broadcast.
The actor also promoted the documentary on Instagram. "I meet wonderful people, encounter llamas, bees, and magnificent landscapes", he writes, inviting his fans to join him on the tour.
After Hospital Stay, Brambach Focuses on Exercise
The documentary fits well with Brambach's new lifestyle. Just recently, the actor revealed to "Bild" that after a four-day hospital stay in May, he significantly intensified his exercise routine. He now starts every morning with a half-hour jog, followed by yoga and 100 push-ups. Tennis and cycling have long been among his passions anyway.
The hospital stay made him realize how important his own health is. The encounters with other patients moved him deeply and motivated him to live more consciously. Despite all the changes, however, Brambach openly admits that he has not yet been able to give up smoking.
The Ruhr Area from a New Perspective
In the WDR production, the camera accompanies the actor on his weekend trip through the green Ruhr area. He is supported by the "Radroutenplaner NRW", which guides him along attractive bike paths and former railway routes to the most beautiful corners of the region. Along the way, Brambach repeatedly meets people who show him their personal favorite places and introduce him to the special atmosphere of the Ruhr area.
