Jörg Dahlmann (67) must fight cancer once again. The former soccer commentator and host has been diagnosed with cancer for the fourth time. "A tumor was found in my liver", he said to RTL.de.

Part of the liver to be removed

Initial symptoms had become noticeable in the bile ducts and had become increasingly severe, Dahlmann described. Eventually, he sought medical attention. Now he must undergo surgery: Part of the liver and probably the gallbladder as well are to be removed.

Dahlmann attributes being affected again to a genetic predisposition. His father, grandfather, and uncle each developed colon or stomach cancer at a young age and died from it, he reported. He lacks the "repair gene" that protects the body against cancer. However, he remains optimistic: "I'm only 67. I definitely want to live a few more years and I will manage that."

Job in Turkey canceled

Dahlmann already received a colon cancer diagnosis in 2005. Because the tumor was discovered early, only part of the colon had to be removed. Later followed a skin cancer diagnosis as well as a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2016 - each time accompanied by surgery.

The new diagnosis also disrupts his professional plans. Dahlmann, who participated in the RTL jungle camp and "Das große Promi-Büßen" (ProSieben) in 2025, had actually planned to work as a host together with his colleague Béla Réthy at a vacation resort in Turkey during the World Cup. He had been very much looking forward to it, the former sports reporter said. Now his health takes priority instead.
