Lola Weippert (30) is serious: A few days ago, the host announced on Instagram that she has given notice on her Berlin apartment and will be living permanently in Ibiza in three months at the latest. However, she's staying connected to Germany professionally, as she will continue to commute back for her jobs, including hosting the NDR talk format "deep und deutlich". And with this move, Weippert is in prominent company: Several German TV hosts have relocated their main residence abroad - while still maintaining their connection to their on-screen homeland.
Alina Merkau
Alina Merkau (40) has already made the leap to Ibiza. The "Sat.1-Frühstücksfernsehen" host has been living there since summer 2025 with husband Rael Hoffmann and their two children, initially for one year. However, she regularly commutes to Berlin for her job. But there's nothing of the often-assumed jetset lifestyle, Merkau emphasized in "Off Air - ganz privat", when you're waiting on Sundays "three hours delayed somehow for the budget flight".
Andrea Kiewel
Andrea Kiewel (61) frequently faces criticism for her ecological footprint, but remains unfazed. The face of "ZDF-Fernsehgarten" has been living in Tel Aviv for eight years with her Israeli fiancé, whom she keeps out of the public eye. For work, the 61-year-old commutes weekly between Israel and Mainz's Lerchenberg during the summer, where she has been hosting the open-air show for over 25 years. Last season, her adopted home became a problem when she couldn't leave Tel Aviv due to the war in the Middle East and had to be replaced by Joachim Llambi and Lutz van der Horst.
Verona Pooth
Verona Pooth (58) gave up her long-time residence in Düsseldorf in summer 2025 and moved to Dubai with husband Franjo and son Rocco. She had originally dreamed of Los Angeles, but the desert metropolis won out for practical reasons. However, she still has to travel to Cologne regularly, for instance for filming as a permanent team member on "The Masked Singer" - and of course to see her son and "Let's Dance" winner Diego, who stayed in Berlin.
Nazan Eckes
Nazan Eckes (50) used to be the all-purpose weapon at RTL, but in 2022 she gave up her jobs at the network of her own accord and has since been living permanently with her sons in northern Majorca - together with her ex-husband. The separated parents practice the so-called nesting model: The children stay in the house, with sometimes the mother there, sometimes the father. "In Cologne my goal was to get quickly from A to B and work through to-do lists. In Majorca my balance has shifted", Eckes said last year to "Gala". However, she still comes back to Germany for individual TV jobs, including serving as guest host on "Schlag den Star" in 2024 or singing on "The Masked Singer".
Barbara Schöneberger
Barbara Schöneberger (52) is one of the best-known hosts on German television - and she also frequently boards a plane to fulfill her job commitments. While the host hasn't emigrated, she acquired a farm years ago with a vegetable and fruit garden as well as animals in Sweden to escape the Berlin hustle and bustle. She hauls the harvest in suitcases across Europe, because she has to be in Germany anyway for her jobs on "Verstehen Sie Spaß?", the "NDR Talk Show" or major award ceremonies. At some point, however, she could still imagine moving there to the countryside permanently.
