Jeff Bridges (76) and his shoulder-length mane - they go together like the Dude and his White Russian! But while The Big Lebowski will probably be sipping his favorite cocktail until the end of time, the actor has now at least temporarily parted ways with his signature look. At the premiere of the animated film Minions & Monster in Los Angeles, the Oscar winner appeared over the weekend with short-cut, silver-gray hair and a beard to match in length.
On the red carpet, Bridges combined the fresh cut with a floral Hawaiian shirt, which he wore under a pale green suede jacket. He paired this with black pants and gray flip-flops, which he wore without socks - at least on this crucial fashion question, he remained true to his cult character.
A Kind of Love Letter to Cinema
In the animated film, Bridges lends his voice to the head of a Hollywood film studio. He recently explained in an interview why he wanted to participate in the project. The homage to Hollywood was irresistible to him: It's a kind of love letter to cinema. The Big Lebowski star was also attracted by the playful character of the production. He described working on it as a lot of fun and praised the creativity behind the new installment of the successful franchise.
The relaxed appearance stands in contrast to recent years, which were marked by serious health setbacks for Bridges.
Cancer Diagnosis and Coronavirus Infection
In 2020, Bridges publicly announced that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma. During chemotherapy, he additionally contracted COVID-19. He had initially suspected nothing about the tumor, as he told the US magazine AARP: I was shooting the fight scenes for the first episode of 'The Old Man' and didn't know I had a 20 by 30 centimeter tumor in my body.
The recovery from COVID-19 in particular proved to be difficult. The infection hit him simultaneously with the cancer treatment and took a heavy toll on his already weakened immune system. In 2021, the actor shared that his lymphoma was in remission. In 2023, he reported that the tumor had since shrunk to marble size.
