Measured against the records broken so far, this achievement seems almost modest. Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing title of the film year 2026 to date just seven days after its theatrical release. This is reported by film magazine Variety, among others. The Sony-Marvel title has thus surpassed Toy Story 5. Previously, Brand New Day had already achieved the most successful opening weekend in North America ever. Avengers: Endgame was beaten.
Toy Story 5 Surpassed
In just seven days since its theatrical release, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed $1.155 billion worldwide so far. Of this, $449 million came from North America, meaning the United States and Canada. An additional $706.3 million was collected in the rest of the world.
The also very successful Toy Story 5, which was released in the U.S. in June, currently stands at a worldwide gross of $1.067 billion.
Avengers: Endgame Exceeded
It was already reported two days ago that Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed the opening record of Avengers: Endgame. The film with Tom Holland (30) and Zendaya (29) in two of the lead roles was able to gross $360 million in North America last weekend, as U.S. trade magazines reported. The previous frontrunner Endgame had set a North American record of approximately $357 million at its opening weekend in 2019.
The fourth Spider-Man solo film with Tom Holland as the friendly neighborhood web-slinger was also able to snag additional records. With a gross of $169.8 million, the best theatrical opening day to date was achieved.
Best Monday and Tuesday in U.S. Cinemas
In North America, the financially most successful Monday to date was also recorded. The $47 million gross beat the previously set $40 million from Black Panther from 2018. Tuesday also entered the record books. At North American box offices, $42 million was collected. More than the $39 million from Spider-Man: No Way Home from 2021.
However, Brand New Day has not pulverized all opening records. Avengers: Endgame took in around $1.2 billion worldwide at its opening weekend in 2019. Here, Spider-Man stands at $932 million.
