The union continued: "Death has cruelly taken one of our own from us. His humility, exceptional talent, and the pride with which he represented South Africa will be remembered forever. Throughout the entire tournament, Adams represented the country's hopes with pride, courage, and great dedication.
From youth talent to national team player
Adams was the first academy graduate of Stellenbosch FC to sign a professional contract in August 2020. At the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, he played in all three group stage matches. He was in the starting lineup for the 0-2 loss against Mexico and the subsequent 1-1 draw against Czech Republic, and was substituted in during the 1-0 victory over South Korea. In the round of 16, which South Africa lost 0-1 against Canada, he was part of the squad but did not play.
Sports minister speaks of profound shock
South Africa's Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, also spoke out in a statement on social media. He had learned of the player's death with profound shock and a heavy heart. South African soccer had lost one of its brightest young talents, and the nation mourned together with the family, teammates, and the millions of fans who had witnessed Adams grow from a promising academy talent to a senior national team player.

McKenzie also revealed that Adams' grandmother had passed away just hours before the group stage match against Czech Republic on June 18 in Atlanta. He had noticed how unusually quiet Jayden seemed on the bench in the second half after being substituted. Only afterwards did they learn that he had taken the field that day while dealing with fresh grief over his grandmother Marianna. She had passed away just hours before kickoff.
Cause of death not yet confirmed
According to the minister, the cause of death has not yet been confirmed. McKenzie asked the public to exercise restraint and compassion and to refrain from speculation while the family and Mamelodi Sundowns receive the space and privacy they need during this extremely difficult time.
