The uncertainty surrounding the German national team coach is nearing its end: Jürgen Klopp (59) and the German Football Association have apparently reached a fundamental agreement on working together. As Sky reports after the talks in New York, the coach is expected to sign a contract through the 2030 World Cup. According to reports, only final details remain to be settled.

The breakthrough reportedly came during a meeting at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, where Klopp and his advisor met with DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice President and Bundesliga Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke. The group is said to have spent more than four hours together at a hotel at the airport.

The exit from Red Bull is still pending

Jürgen Klopp still has a contract with the Red Bull corporation until 2029. Since early 2025, the former successful coach of Borussia Dortmund and FC Liverpool has been working there as Global Head of Soccer. He must dissolve this contract together with CEO Oliver Mintzlaff before he can sign with the DFB. However, by the beginning of next week at the latest, both parties in New York allegedly want to draw a line under Klopp's engagement. According to Sky reports, the association wants to announce the agreement promptly. Klopp will be working as an expert for MagentaTV in the USA until the World Cup final on July 19.

Alongside the future national team coach, Rudi Völler will continue his position as sporting director. The 66-year-old said this after talks with Klopp and the association leadership during a media round on Tuesday. The new appointment became necessary after Julian Nagelsmann (38) announced his resignation following the disappointing World Cup elimination against Paraguay (3-4 in penalty shootout).

The first international match under new leadership is scheduled for September 24, when the German team faces the Netherlands in the Nations League.
