US soap star Scott Bryce has died at the age of 68. His son Jackson Bryce confirmed to the "New York Times" that he died on Sunday (July 12) in a hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. In 2025, the actor had publicly revealed that he was suffering from stage three esophageal and stomach cancer. In an Instagram post, his son described how the disease had since spread.

"Tonight my father lost his long battle with cancer. What began as stage three esophageal cancer eventually spread and led to brain tumors that took his life", Jackson wrote. He explained the attitude with which his father faced the disease: with pride, with courage, and with the unwavering belief that everything would be alright in the end. Even a week before his death, his father had told him that he "was ready to fight as much as necessary".

"He fought the toughest and most honorable fight I have ever witnessed", he wrote. "May his strength and unwavering faith live on in me forever." He also emphasized how much the actor embraced his role as a father. "Being my father was always his top priority", Jackson Bryce stressed.

Success with soap opera As the World Turns

Acting was practically in Scott Bryce's cradle. Both his father Ed and his mother Dorothy worked in the television industry. Bryce made his TV debut in 1982 as Craig Montgomery in the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. He played the role of the ambitious businessman on and off over several decades and received two Daytime Emmy nominations for it. He returned to the series at irregular intervals until 2008.

In addition to his signature role, Bryce also appeared in numerous other productions. He had guest appearances in series such as The Golden Girls, Murphy Brown, and Law & Order. In the drama series Popular, he played the father of a cheerleader portrayed by Leslie Bibb. He also worked as a director and producer and regularly performed on theater stages.

Former colleague says goodbye

His former co-star Finn Carter, who played his wife alongside Bryce in As the World Turns, said goodbye to him on Instagram. "My grief knows no bounds. My gratitude to Scott knows even fewer bounds", she wrote, describing him as fearless, kind, and generous. "Scott, you were a gift I didn't deserve and that was simply given to the world", she honored him.
