Popular World Cup analyst Micah Richards (38), who is also extremely popular in this country, covered the semifinal between Argentina and England for the BBC. But just before the live broadcast began, he received tragic news: His father has died. Nevertheless, the former English national team player analyzed the action on the field. After the final whistle, he addressed the situation on social media.
"Shortly before today's broadcast began, I received the terrible news that my father Lincoln has passed away. His death came unexpectedly and he left us far too early", he wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo showing him as a child with his father Lincoln. "He was my biggest fan. He hardly missed a game in my entire life", Richards reported. His father had been incredibly proud of him.
The ex-soccer professional was certain that his father would have wanted him to go on air despite the tragic loss. "My thoughts today are with my siblings and my entire family as we remember my father Lincoln, my hero and my inspiration", he added.
