Many will likely still remember: On July 12 and 13, 2016, Ana Ivanović (38) and Bastian Schweinsteiger (41) celebrated their fairy-tale wedding in Venice. But lasting amore was not meant to be for the former sports dream couple. Almost exactly nine years later, the former professional tennis player had her lawyer announce the end of their marriage. By their tenth wedding anniversary, the two are already leading separate lives.

How grandly they celebrated their love

Everything had started so fairy-tale-like. Through tennis colleague Andrea Petković (38), Ivanović and Schweinsteiger met in the summer of 2014 in New York - in a hotel lobby. Their first date took them to Central Park shortly after. One year later came the proposal: For the question of all questions, the soccer world champion rented an entire park in London's Notting Hill neighborhood. Then came the big 'I do' in Venice. The celebrations in the Italian lagoon city were among the major celebrity events of 2016.

First, Ivanović and Schweinsteiger exchanged civil vows in Venice. The bride wore a dress by the New York label Parker. One day later followed the church ceremony at the Chiesa dell'Abbazia della Misericordia church.

Ivanović dazzled in an exclusive custom creation by British designer Suzie Turner, and many prominent companions such as Thomas Müller, Lukas Podolski, Felix Neureuther, and Uli Hoeneß celebrated with the couple. As accommodation for themselves and numerous guests, the couple chose an exclusive address: the luxury hotel Aman on the Canal Grande. In 2014, George and Amal Clooney had already stayed here for their wedding, and in 2025, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez followed.

They have three sons together

For many years, everything seemed perfect with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Ana Ivanović. "Together you can handle anything. The foundation is love," she once said in an interview. They also showed this love publicly: at joint appearances, with gushing words about their date nights, and not least as a couple in lucrative advertising campaigns.

Three sons - born in 2018, 2019, and 2023 - crowned their marriage. But two years after the birth of their youngest child, first rumors emerged that the happiness of the former power couple might have developed cracks. In July 2025, Ivanović finally confirmed the separation through her lawyer, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason.

Neither has commented further on the end of their marriage. At the turn of the year, however, Ivanović looked back on the past months on Instagram and described 2025 as "the hardest and at the same time most beautiful teacher" she could have wished for. "Thank you for the lessons, the challenges, and for showing me where I still needed to grow."

She did not mention her ex-partner's name. Nevertheless, she showed optimism for the future: "I'm entering 2026 with peace in my heart and full of anticipation for what lies ahead." She is "forever grateful" to her family and friends: "Your love has carried me more than you will ever know."

While Schweinsteiger is currently focusing on his job as an ARD expert at the World Cup, Ivanović can be seen at tennis events and most recently at Paris Fashion Week.
