Shawn Mendes goes public with Bruna Marquezine relationship

Shawn Mendes (27) has confirmed his relationship with Brazilian actress and model Bruna Marquezine for the first time himself. The occasion was her 31st birthday: On Tuesday, August 4, the singer posted several videos together on Instagram and wrote a charming dedication.

"Feliz aniversário my baby" - in English: "Happy birthday, my baby" - begins the text from the Grammy nominee. He continues: "You are a light and a mama in every room you walk into. Not to get too cheesy, but you really have changed my life and I'm so, so grateful for you." At the end, Mendes switches back to Portuguese: "Eu te amo muito muito muito", which means "I love you so, so, so much" And further: "We all do, my love..."

Birthday videos from Rio de Janeiro

The footage was taken at Casa Amarela in Rio de Janeiro's Providência neighborhood. In the first video, a group of children runs up to Marquezine and hugs her. In another sequence, the actress sings and dances while the children sing her a birthday song.

Mendes himself can also be seen smiling with two children. The post concludes with a photo of Marquezine holding her dog in front of her face. In his Instagram Stories, the "Stitches" performer shared additional photos, including a joint shot of the couple from the roof of Casa Amarela.

First rumors in December 2025

Public speculation about the two has been going on since last December, as "Page Six" reported at the time. In the eight months since, Mendes and Marquezine have been photographed in both the US and Brazil, the actress's home country. There was no official statement about it until the birthday post.

Previously, the Canadian musician was mainly in the headlines for his on-off relationship with Cuban-Mexican-American singer Camila Cabello (29). The couple was together from 2019 to 2023, split for the first time in 2021, and briefly reconciled in 2023. In February 2023, Mendes was also publicly linked to Sabrina Carpenter (27), as "People" magazine reported - around the same time his relationship with Cabello rekindled.

Mendes wanted to take the pressure off

The singer shared his thoughts on dating life during a concert in Colorado in October 2024. According to a TikTok video, he told the audience there: "When you're single, there's this pressure to find 'the one,' who is 'the one'? ... Dang, that's a lot of pressure to put on someone when you're just starting to date."

He therefore tries to take exactly that pressure off, "and just allow myself to experience the love that's happening in that moment, wherever and however that happens".
