Samsung is expanding its product line of foldable smartphones, known as foldables. Starting August 7, 2026, three new models of the Galaxy Z series will be regularly available in stores. Official sales of the devices began at midnight this Friday.
The South Korean tech giant first unveiled its new devices Galaxy Z Flip8 and Galaxy Z Fold8, as well as the new flagship model Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, in July. Despite considerable prices, interest appears to be strong.
According to the company, pre-order numbers in Europe significantly exceeded expectations. In the first eleven days after the announcement, there were more than 20 percent more pre-orders than for the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, the previous generation. Buyers seem to have a particularly high interest in the Galaxy Z Fold8. In Europe, nearly 40 percent of all pre-orders are for this model.
Galaxy Z Flip8: Compact in Your Pocket
The Galaxy Z Flip8 can be folded like a classic flip phone. When closed, with dimensions of 85.7 x 75.4 x 13.1 mm and a weight of around 180 grams, it should fit quite easily into smaller pockets. Much information and many functions are already accessible and usable via the 4.1-inch external display. When unfolded, a 6.9-inch screen is available, which is roughly the size of a conventional smartphone.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Smartphone and Mini Tablet
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is based on a different concept. When folded, it has a comparatively compact 5.5-inch external display. When opened, users have access to a 7.6-inch screen that offers more space for reading, watching videos and the like. In terms of size, it resembles a small tablet. At around 201 grams in weight, the Fold8 is, according to the manufacturer, the lightest model in the Galaxy Z Fold series to date.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: The New Flagship
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is aimed at people who want a particularly large screen area and are willing to dig deep into their pockets for their new smartphone. Its foldable main display measures a full 8 inches, with a 6.5-inch screen on the outside. It also features a main camera with a 200-megapixel wide-angle and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. Despite the large display, the device weighs only 215 grams and is just 4.1 millimeters thin when unfolded.
Those interested in one of these devices should unfortunately not expect any bargains. The regular MSRP - without trade-in or possible discounts - of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at 1,299 euros, that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 at 1,999 euros, and that of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra at 2,199 euros. In the variant with one terabyte of storage space and 16 gigabytes of RAM, the new flagship even costs 2,799 euros.
