Pietro Lombardi (34) has broken his silence. Two days after the car accident involving the "DSDS" star last weekend in Cologne, the singer is speaking out for the first time himself - and reveals how deeply the shock still resonates. "I believe it was a huge shock for me and everyone involved", Lombardi explained in his Instagram story.
The collision occurred on Sunday, June 14, at an intersection in Cologne. As the "Bild" newspaper reported, Lombardi's car collided with the vehicle of another driver. Police confirmed that a 20-year-old participant sustained minor injuries. According to the musician, his own vehicle is a total loss, which he documented with a photo.
"The guardian angel was on our side"
Lombardi describes what the crash did to him emotionally in an unusually candid manner. He says he was the oldest person at the accident scene and wanted to be there for everyone - but the situation overwhelmed him as well. "So many emotions, such a huge shock. You don't even process it all", said the 34-year-old.
One thing matters to him most after this evening: "I'm simply grateful that the guardian angel was on our side. That's what counts", according to Lombardi. "That nothing worse happened to anyone. Sure, the shock runs deep, but it will pass, but we're healthy for the most part."
He only really grasped the whole thing once he got home. "When you get home, your thoughts start going crazy. You have children, you have family. What if...", the singer describes. "Those are thoughts that really mess you up."
Frustration over onlookers at the accident scene
Besides the accident itself, a second point won't let Lombardi go: the dark side of his fame. While those involved were still in shock, according to his account, "what felt like hundreds of people" are said to have gathered. Some allegedly called out his name and even asked for a photo.
For the artist, this behavior is incomprehensible. "It doesn't get more antisocial than that. But unfortunately that's also part of my life", he commented on the scene. He's now looking forward - and appeals to his fans to take good care of themselves.
Turbulent days before the accident
The collision was preceded by an already eventful week. Shortly before, Lombardi had been on stage: He performed at a family and children's festival in Oberhausen, as evident from his Instagram stories. According to RTL, the accident occurred on Sunday evening after the German national team's World Cup match.
Already on June 9, the former "DSDS" winner had celebrated his 34th birthday - with a performance at Megapark in Mallorca. However, he didn't stay there long: He returned home directly after the gig.
Lombardi can now look forward to another happy event: On the coming Friday, June 19, his oldest son Alessio will turn eleven years old.
