Will the famous father soon be sitting in the stands in Munich? Mathew Collins (21) is now officially playing for TSV 1860 Munich. The club announced this on July 31. Although the son of British music legend Phil Collins (75) and half-brother of Emily in Paris star Lily Collins (37) had already played for the Lions several times, the contract only came together now.
Mathew Collins has signed a contract through 2027, the Munich club announced publicly. The fact that the signing only happened now apparently had reasons that had nothing to do with the soccer player. According to a recent report in the Bild newspaper, the signing was allegedly delayed due to an international release procedure by FIFA, the world soccer federation. This has not been officially confirmed.

During preseason, Collins was already able to prove himself in training and test matches. "Mathew has made a very good impression on us," managing director Thomas Probst is quoted as saying in a statement. The young player is an asset both on and off the field. "During the first training session, I already saw what great fans the club has, and playing in front of up to 3,000 fans in test matches was something very special," Collins enthuses. "Now I'm looking forward to the first matches at Grünwalder Stadium and the atmosphere there."
The fans will be pleased if the famous father perhaps stops by sometime. Phil Collins has sold millions of records over decades as a solo artist and with the band Genesis. He is among the acts being inducted into the famous Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. In recent years, he has been in poor health. In May, he said in an interview for BBC Breakfast that he doesn't yet feel fit enough for the stage, but is currently "as healthy as I've been in a long time."
