King Charles (77) is currently riding high with the British public. As "The Sun" reports, the 77-year-old is enjoying the highest approval rating since his accession to the throne. According to the newspaper, a poll revealed that 68 percent of respondents believe Charles is doing a "good job" as monarch.
This is not only the highest approval rating for Charles since he has been on the throne, but also represents an increase of six percentage points compared to the last poll. Only 16 percent of respondents are dissatisfied with the monarch's work.
King Charles has scored points in the US
The poll took place a few weeks before the fourth anniversary of Charles' accession to the throne. On September 8, 2022, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at the age of 96. The official coronation of the new monarch then took place on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.
The new surge in poll numbers comes after eventful months for the King. In April, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla (79), paid a visit to US President Donald Trump (80). The royal couple's appearance subsequently triggered many positive reactions.
Further positive headlines came in July from a meeting with his grandchildren Lilibet (5) and Archie (7). Charles had seen the two for the first time in more than four years after receiving his son Prince Harry (41) and his wife Duchess Meghan (45), who had moved to the US, at his Highgrove estate.
Now the King is in Scotland, where he is beginning his summer break. Royal expert Robert Jobson told the "Sun": "The King has done solid work so far this year, particularly in handling the state visit to the US." The way he has handled the situation with Harry is also perceived as positive by many people.
Prince William is the most popular royal
According to the report, Princess Kate (44) and Prince William (44) are at the very top of the YouGov poll, which also asked about the most popular royals. The heir to the throne ranks first with 76 percent, his wife ranks second with 74 percent.
Prince Harry has gained two points since January and now stands at 33 percent. This means he has overtaken both Princess Beatrice (37) and Princess Eugenie (36). Things also went uphill for Harry's wife Meghan: from 19 percent to 22 percent. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (66), who is embroiled in the Epstein scandal, remains at the bottom of the list with six percent.
