In recent years, Duchess Meghan (45) has diligently worked on her professional foundations. Her big Hollywood comeback could be on the horizon in her new year of life. She celebrates her 45th birthday today.
Prince Harry's (41) wife and founder of the lifestyle brand "As Ever" has surely already marked an important date in red on her calendar: On October 30, she has the chance to receive a Daytime Emmy at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and thereby secure crucial recognition in the industry. In mid-July, it was announced that her Netflix show "With Love, Meghan" is nominated in the category "Outstanding Lifestyle Series".
The duchess also shared her joy with her 4.7 million followers. There, she congratulated the entire crew, producers, and everyone involved who had worked on the show. Over two seasons and a Christmas special, the audience was able to accompany Meghan while cooking, gardening, and entertaining guests.
She received partly scathing criticism and much ridicule on social networks for her appearances. American comedian Michael Pavano mocked her in numerous sketches. Given the critics, a prize would certainly be a vindication for Meghan and could pave the way for further projects in Hollywood.
Return in front of the camera
Meanwhile, Meghan is considered well-connected; she maintains contacts with the most powerful people in the industry. Her connection to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (62) and his wife Lauren Sánchez (56) is likely to be career-advancing. In November, she and Harry attended Kris Jenner's 70th birthday party, which Bezos hosted in Los Angeles. Meghan celebrated there alongside numerous entertainment industry heavyweights.
Shortly before, it had leaked that Amazon MGM Studios, which belongs to Bezos' corporation, is producing the film "Close Personal Friends", in which Meghan will be seen in a supporting role after an eight-year acting hiatus. In the romantic comedy, she appeared as herself in front of the camera alongside stars like Lily Collins, Brie Larson, and Jack Quaid. According to the film database "IMDb," the project is currently in post-production and could therefore perhaps celebrate its premiere in the coming months.
Before she married into the royal family in 2018, Meghan earned her money in front of the camera. Starting in 2002, she appeared in smaller roles and guest appearances, such as in "General Hospital", "CSI: NY", or "Knight Rider". The big break came almost ten years later with the legal series "Suits", filmed in Toronto, in which she became known to a million-strong audience as law firm employee Rachel Zane. She gave up the job to start a new life at the prince's side, which famously ended in 2020 with the departure from the royal family and the move to the USA. Since then, Meghan has been seeking proximity to the film and television industry again.
New restraint
However, public complaints about the Royal Family initially cost her much sympathy. The fact that she disclosed insider information about the family in various interviews as well as the Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan" did not go down well with many. The duchess may have learned her lesson from this and is now relying on a more restrained image in this regard: When she visited King Charles (77) at his country estate Highgrove House together with Harry and their two children on July 10, it happened completely out of the public eye. King Charles had not seen his grandchildren Archie (7) and Lilibet (5) for four years. The fact that Meghan finally made a reunion possible for the monarch is highly appreciated.
Incidentally, discretion was reportedly a condition that Charles attached to the meeting. "That was the promise Harry gave to his father", a source told the magazine "Vanity Fair". And Meghan adhered to it, which was favorably noted. Insiders admired that she now leaves the family matter entirely to Harry and stays in the background.
More projects with Netflix
Speaking of background: Meghan also remains active behind the film scenes. The collaboration between Archewell Productions and the streaming service Netflix has been running since 2020, although the exclusive contract has since been downgraded to a multi-year first-look deal for film and television projects. Just in April, the Sussexes reportedly spent a glamorous evening at the party of Netflix chief Ted Sarandos, who also lives in Montecito. The event at his villa was also attended by Justin Trudeau, Katy Perry, and Carey Mulligan. The next projects may have also been discussed that evening.
As the trade publication "Deadline" reported in May, Archewell Productions is developing a film adaptation of the military memoir "No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege" by Major Adam Jowett together with Netflix. The couple is also working on a film adaptation of the romance novel "The Wedding Date" as well as an adaptation of Carley Fortune's novel "Meet Me at the Lake". It was already announced in March that Meghan and Harry are producing a fictional drama series for Netflix set in the polo world.
